Direct payment to farmers’ accounts, ₹1318 crore transferred so far to 1,15,854 beneficiary farmers
Eastern UP districts lead procurement, Deoria tops with 55.82%
Basti, Pratapgarh, Balrampur and Sant Kabir Nagar also ahead in procurement
Lucknow, May 1.
Wheat procurement during the Rabi marketing season in Uttar Pradesh has picked up speed. Due to the active strategy of the Yogi government and strong arrangements at the ground level, a total of 6.10 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured till April 28, showing the effectiveness of the campaign.
The government has given top priority to transparency and farmers’ convenience in this campaign. So far, ₹1318 crore has been transferred directly into the bank accounts of 1,15,854 farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This is ensuring timely payment to farmers.
Arrangements at procurement centres across the state have been strengthened. The process of weighing, storage and payment has been made simple and transparent so that farmers do not face any problem in selling their produce. Clear instructions have been given to officials to ensure enough resources at every centre and that no farmer has to return without selling.
Districts of Eastern UP have shown strong performance in wheat procurement. Deoria has secured the top position in the state with 55.82% procurement, presenting a strong example of administrative action and farmer participation. Apart from this, districts like Basti, Pratapgarh, Balrampur and Sant Kabir Nagar are also moving ahead quickly. Better management and transparent systems have strengthened farmers’ trust.
This time, unseasonal rain affected wheat quality, with grains shrinking and losing shine. In such a situation, the central government has given relief in the interest of farmers. Now wheat with up to 70% loss of shine and up to 20% shrivelled or broken grains is allowed to be procured without any deduction, helping farmers avoid losses.
The entire process, from registration to payment, has been made digital. Farmers are registering easily and receiving payments directly in their accounts. At the same time, the monitoring system has been strengthened to ensure that more and more farmers get the benefit of Minimum Support Price (MSP).
